When will the virtual page number have more bits than the physical frame number? -

i have following question on practice exam:

for computer system implements paging, under circumstance vpn (virtual page number) have more bits pfn (physical frame number)?

i trying argue that:

the number of bits represent virtual page number , physical frame number equal equal. if system doesn't have enough memory available fill entire physical address space, same number of bits used.

on 80386 processor, 20 bits used virtual page number , there 20 bits used represent physical frame numbers.

is there circumstance vpn have more bits pfn?

you asking when can virtual address space greater physical address space.

the answer these days.

few virtual memory systems support physical memory virtual memory.
